Colours(Narrative)

The story of a rainbow

It is a stormy night, I was in my bed hope that i can fall asleep and prepare to repeat the day again tomorrow. Every stormy night hook up my sweet childhood memories where my mother will comfort me every time I got scared when there is a storm at night. Mother will read  my favorite story book to console me to sleep . The story goes like this.

Once upon a time all the in the world started to quarrel, each claimed that they were the best, the most important, the most useful, or the most favorite colour. Green said, " Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and hope. I was chosen for the grass, the trees and the leaves. Without me all the animals  would die. Look out into the countryside and you will see that I am in the majorities. "

Blue interrupted, You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and this is drawn up by the clouds from the blues sea. The sky gives space and serenity. Without my peace you would all be nothing but busybodies."

Yellow chuckled: "You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety and warmth into the world . The sun is yellow , the moon is yellow , the stars is yellow. Every time you look at the sunflower the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun."

Orange next started to blow its own trumpet. "I am the colour of health and strength .I may be scars but I am precious because I serve the inner needs of human life. I carry all the important vitamins .Think of the carrots, the pumpkins and the oranges. I do not hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise, or give you a majestic sunset to admire, my beauty is so striking that no one ever gives  another thought to any of you!"

Red could stand it no longer . Red shouted out," I am the ruler of you all. Blood, life's blood. I am the colour of danger and bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire in the blood. Without  me the earth would be as empty as the moon .I am the colour of passion and of love, the red rose , the poinsettia and the poppy."

Purple rose up to its full height. He was very tall and spoke with great pomp:" I am the colour of royalty and power. Kings ,chiefs and bishops have chosen me, for I am the sign of authorities and of wisdom. People do not question me. They listen and obey."

Indigo spoke with a soft voice, but just as determinedly." Think of me, I am the colour of silence. You hardly notice me but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep waters. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace.

All the colour went on boasting, each convinced that they were the best. Their quarrelling grew louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash and brilliant white lightning, thunder rolled and boomed out. The suddenly rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colour all crouched down in fear, drawing close to one another for comfort.

The rain spoke:" You foolish colours, fighting among yourself , each try to dominate the others. Did you not know that the creator made you all, each for a special purpose, unique and different. The creator loves you all, he wants you all. Join hands with one another and come with me. He will stretch you across the sky in a great bow of colour as a reminder that he loves you all, that you can live together in peace, a promise that he is with you, a sign of hope for all for tomorow."

SO whenever "He" uses a good rain to wash the world "He" puts the rainbow in the sky, and when we should remember that "He" wants us all to appreciate , and live with each other in peace and not try to fight and dominate everyone. After she puts me to sleep, she covers me with my comforter. The next day, after the storm is over, there will be a beautiful rainbow in the morning sky.

Colours( Factual )

Colours of nature

The world of nature is colourful and bright and human ingenuity cannot hope to match it. Right from the sky above to the sea below, nature abounds in the richness of colour. The human eye and the human mind respond to this world of colour and identify themselves with it. When a person is cheerful and bright we refer to him as a 'colourful personality', similarly the different colours are used to indicate human moods and attitudes: blue is associated with depression, white is likened with serenity, green with jealousy and red with rage. Colour is also used to relieve tension. Psychologists have investigated the effect of colour on the working ability of workers and have come to the conclusion that certain colours are more conducive to Positive thinking than others.

Nature fulfils man's longing for colour: there is variety in everything. The sky can be clear and blue, it can be dark with clouds, it reflects the glory of the rising sun and the variegated hues of the setting sun. The sea which is normally associated with blue is not really so all the time. The sea water can he blue, green, grey and many more subtle shades and even the rivers and streams reflect the surrounding area and acquire that colour. Coleridge's poem 'The Ancient Mariner' is rich in its description of the world of nature. People who do not observe are not able to notice the finer shades and are consequently not able to enjoy this valuable side of life.

In the west, seasonal changes bring in changes in the landscape. While spring is rich with colour, autumn provides a restful view to the eye with its soft browns and ripe greens and winter brings in the whiteness of snow along with its stillness conveying the effect of sleepiness and hibernation. And if on the one hand there is joy and vivacity in spring, there is coolness in the abundance of the green forests, and a challenge in the dark rocks of the mountains and an immensity in the vast, barren stretches of sand.

On the question of birds, I have discovered that in their world there are endless colour combinations. If green and grey birds mate, the new born chick has a lovely soft green color; if yellow and blue mate the chicks may be either a heightened blue or a softened yellow. No painter's effort can successfully capture the elusive world of nature.

Nature's world of colour, especially among the animals, has a deeper purpose than there variety. The colour of animals helps them to successfully camouflage themselves. If the toad is brown and mingles with the colour of the earth, the frog merges with the green colour of the scum. The polar bear is white but not so the tropical bear. Fishes also have the ability to change colour in order to mingle with their surroundings as do some birds like the willow ptarmigan. Lizards also have different colours according to their surroundings - a desert lizard will be sand-coloured while a lizard in a heavy monsoon area will be of greenish hue. Butterflies and insects also share this characteristic. This is not to say that animals and birds do not have bright colours which contrast with their surroundings. This also has a purpose. The bright colours of the peacock are not only a pleasure to the human eye but they also push the peahen into obscurity and offer her greater protection. A male bird may display some brilliant coloration to scare a rival. The Chinese ring-necked pheasant does exactly this, he puffs out his red pouches on the side of his neck when confronted by another male.

Thus colour does not only give pleasure, it also has a purpose. Imagine life without the colour of nature! It would indeed be dull and monotonous the sparkle of life will not he there. Colour also has brought up problems. The whole problem of racial discrimination is connected with the colour of the human skin. Men are hidebound in their narrow beliefs and have not yet learnt to value the variety of colour and have not understood nature's purpose behind this.

A drama I watched

I finished watching a Chinese drama named The Legend of Miyue ( 芈月传 . It is a nice drama about the history of china during the warring states. In the Warring States period, Mi Yue  is King Wei of Chu’s favorite little princess, but after her father’s death, her life falls to chaos. Her mother is cast out of the palace by the Queen of Chu, and Mi Yue and her brother Mi Rong hide in the palace, avoiding disaster after disaster. Mi Yue had had a childhood sweetheart, but is instead sent as an attendant to the state of Qin when her sister, Mi Shu, marries there. Mi Shu becomes the queen of Qin, while Mi Yue becomes a consort. After Mi Yue gives birth to her son , her relationship with Mi Shu deteriorates . Later, Mi Yue and Mi Shu are sent to the far away state of Yan, but unexpectedly, Mi Shu’s son dies, and Qin enters internal turmoil. Mi Yue’s son becomes the next king of Qin, and Mi Yue becomes the first empress dowager in history, “The Empress Dowager Xuan.”

Hari Raya AidilFitri

The Festival of the Breaking of the Fast, called Hari Raya Aidilfitri, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims.Hari Raya literally means ‘celebration day’, and Hari Raya Aidilfitri is the day that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of dawn-to-sunset fasting. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is considered one of the two most important celebrations for Muslims, the other being Hari Raya Haji – the festival of Abraham’s sacrifice.
Hari Raya is one of the biggest holidays in Malaysia, and many Muslims (and even non-Muslims) return to their family home (balik kampong) driving or flying home for a couple of days before the day to be with their families and loved ones. There are often jams during this travelling time but these soon resolve as other travellers reach their destinations.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri sees families and friends seeking forgiveness from each other, visiting ancestors’ graves, saying prayers at the mosque and visiting relatives and friends to feast traditional Malay delicacies like ketupat, rendang, satay, lemang and curry. In Malaysia, children are given token sums of money from their parents or elders.
I here wish all Muslim around the world selamat Hari Raya AidilFitri.
