Peninsular Malaysia has a well-developed network of roads and highways. We are also connected by road to Thailand in the north and Singapore in the south. All the major cities and towns are linked by modern highways and even the smaller towns, villagers, plantations and remote parts of the countryside are linked by road.
In the larger cities one has to put up with the usual traffic jams but this mostly during peak hours. Many of the accidents are due to carelessness and recklessness. The speed limit on the expressways is usually 110 km per hour and road users have to pay a toll along the expressway.
Driving in peninsular Malaysia is very convenient. It us cheap and pleasant. You can take your time and stop anywhere you like to enjoy the scenery changes from lush, green forest and plantations to beautiful seaside coastline and villages.
Driving along the countryside can be great fun and is an excellent way to see the country.

Malaysian Festivals
Malaysia is made u of different races and we celebrate a variety of festivals. The most important festival for the Chinese is Chinese New Year, which usually falls in January or February. The Chinese make it a point to settle all debts before the new year begins. on the eve of the new year, families get together for a special reunion dinner. Younger unmarried members of the family receive red packets containing money when they visit older relatives and friends.
The Muslim celebrate Hari Raya Puasa which marks the end of the fasting month. The festivals begins with prayers at the mosque early in the morning. Some people visit the cemetery to pray for loved one who have departed. After that, there are visits to relatives' houses and feasts. The most popular dish during this time is the ketupat, which is made from rice, and chicken or beef rendang, a curry dish that is cooked with coconut milk.
Deepavali or the festival of Lights is celebrated by the Hindus. Hindu homes are decorated with little lamps which symbolise the victory of good over evil. On this special day, Hindus dress in new clothes and go to the temple in the morning. Then they visit their friends or invite friends over to their homes for a feast.

Sharing was not caring
I refer to the article 'Sharing Was Not Caring' on yesterday's newspaper. It was very unwise of the mother to give her young son the medicine that was prescribed for her. Sharing medicine with someone else may make this other person very sick. Futhermore, the person for whom the medicine was initially prescribed wil have less medicine to take.
Many people share their medicine with other family members to save money. But this is not wise. This could harm the other people as what happened to little Kamal. He was already having other medical problems. The medicine given by his mother reacted with his own medicine and made matters worse.
Antibiotics, especially must not be shared. You must take the full dose and complete the course. We are all different and our bodies react differently to different types of medicines. Let this incident with Kamal be a lesson to everyone. We must be careful especially when it comes to health matters.

What to do when burns occur
If you are at home alone with a burn victim and cannot get to a hospital immediately, there are certain things that you can do to help the victim.
You should remove the clothing from the burned areas but do not remove any clothing that is stuck to the skin. If it is not a serious burn, you can run cool water over the burn to lessen the pain . If it is only first-degree burn, then you can apply a gauze bandage. You should seek medical care immediately if the burned area is large or if the burn is from chemicals. You should cover the burned area with a clean, soft cloth. If the burn is from electrical wire or socket, make sure that the electricity supply from that wire or socket is switched off. Call for an ambulance quickly if you cannot take the victim to the hospital yourself.
Make sure at all times that the victim is calm. Do not panic! Always reassure the victim and make sure him or her as comfortable as possible.

Making a pop-up card
A pop-up card is beautiful and it makes a great Mother's Day or birthday card. This card is very simple to make too. The supplies that you need are think, coloured paper, a pair of scissors, some glue, markers or crayons.
Fold two rectangular pieces of coloured paper in half. One piece will form the outside of the card while the other piece, the inside.
On the inside piece, cut two short lines near the middle of the fold you have made. Then fold the two outside flaps that you have just made but make sure you do not fold the middle flap. Next, unfold the paper.
Then open the card and push the two flaps towards the inside of the card. Next refold the card as you did originally. Then cut two short lines through the folded flaps on the sides. After that, fold the outside flaps that you just made. Then unfold the flaps once again. Open the card and push the flaps towards the inside of the card. They will form step like structures inside the card.
Then cut some flowers and leaves from the coloured paper You may decorate them with crayons or coloured pencils. Then glue these flowers to the card, making sure that the flowers do not stick out of the card when you close it. Finally, glue this card to the otherfolded paper, making sure that you do not glue the flaps.

His mother was unable to deal with his condition and even thought he would be better off dead. She could not imagine how he would live his life in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. His wife, Dana, however, convinced him that life was still worth living because she loved him.
That was the key to his recovery. Although he never walked again, he remained positive and did a lot to raise money for research into spinal injuries. He founded the Christopher Reeve Foundation for this purpose.
