Christopher Reeves

Christopher Reeves acted as Superman in the first Superman film. He was tall, good-looking and a very good sportsman. He was born into a rich family and went to an expensive private school.

He enjoyed sailing, scuba diving, skiing ,flying planes, horse riding and lots of other outdoor activities. In May 1995, when he was just 40, he fell off his horse and hurt his neck in a riding accident. As a result, he became paralysed. He could not move his arm or turn his head.

His mother was unable to deal with his condition and even thought he would be better off dead. She could not imagine how he would live his life in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. His wife, Dana, however, convinced him that life was still worth living because she loved him.

That was the key to his recovery. Although he never walked again, he remained positive and did a lot to raise money for research into spinal injuries. He founded the Christopher Reeve Foundation for this purpose.

Reeve passed away when he was 52 tears old due to heart failure. His children are now serving as the board of directors for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
